Back in the day, to move a stored boat to water, you needed rollers. Today's fancy-dancy cranes didn't exist yet.
As I understand things, nobody actually made rollers, so you were kind of on your own.
Moving a very heavy boat with rollers was quite the operation:
As you moved the boat forward, someone had to grab the no longer needed roller from astern and race forward to place it under the bow. Again and again. This was manly work.
Going down to the cellar to clean catboxes exhausts me. I now see the genius of fancy-dancy cranes.
