Desk Chairs

I worked at "the Western".  Western Electric was the manufacturing arm of the Bell System - AT&T was the brains, the operating companies (the guys that delivered and ran your phone service) were the jewels, and we were the grunts that pounded out telephone poles, wire and the like.

Then something called competition started to creep in.  So a large number of us kids were hired to develop a sales force, some sort of marketing intelligence, Product Management - the stuff real companies are made of.

Unfortunately, there were still some bosses that had roots so deep under their chairs in their handsomely decorated offices, protected by (forgive me here) Battle axe secretaries, we needed to use a lot of finesse.

But we were spunky.
