We Americans take a lot for granted. Like, walking across busy streets, the traffic will yield to you.
Well, this isn't actually true - there are courtesy signs that say stop for pedestrian in walkways, but the nuance is IN THE WALKWAYS. Not wherever a sign might be in sight or you feel lazy and you are free to scoot across a busy street just because you found a parking space.
This is New Jersey. Walk in the walkway or take your chances. If I whack you as you dart through traffic, so be it - you weren't in a walkway. We mean business.
