Steps - a Hidden Evil?

I appear to be getting older.

This will probably come as no surprise to you, being that you all probably thought I was a pretty old coot from the get-go.

So be it.  The point here is steps: it doesn't matter who built them, what local codes say about their hight: they are getting taller somehow all on their own as time goes by.  Can this menace be going on under our unsuspecting noses?
