Into The Lurch Once More

My sainted wife and I ventured forth on a recent Saturday evening to an especially nice high-end steakhouse well known for its steaks arriving table side sizzling in butter.  Why, the mouth waters even as I write these words.

By high-end, of course, I mean dinner for two (with tip & drinks) easily approaches $200.  As is our wont, we got all gussied up, valet parked, checked the wraps, the whole bit.  As with so many restaurants these days, this place is struggling to balance welcoming all comers while discouraging idiots dressed like they just crawled out of bed.

And there it was - a discrete sign saying "no hats, caps, or sleeveless shirts."  Adjusting my tie, I sighed heavily.  A laudable start, but they certainly hadn't set the bar too high, and it showed in the attire of the patrons.  What nincompoop pays $50 for a steak in a sweatshirt?

It's time to get serious here - offer free drinks or 10% off on the bill to men in jackets and ties.  Money talks.
