The Bell System had a special way of pronouncing this word, but like Mainisms - eyuh comes to mind - translating things into written form is sort of a crapshoot.

Easy: the South Park solution. Unplug everything, replug, and pray all will be well.
Unfortunately, not the solution this time. The curmudgeon quickly realized that the wireless modem might be at the heart of things. With the sainted wife's pressure on him, the ideal solution occurred - throw the damned thing out the front door and let the raccoons eat it.
Then the curmudgeon remembered that magic word: wire. Why not plug the two things together, and again, pray all will be well.
Wire: never forget wire.
