The curmudgeon, having survived the late 60s/early 70s - you must have heard : sex, drugs, and  Rock & Roll - (observation: not always in that order), he became quite the fan of well-played R&R

Well-played simply translates into LOUD

The  curmudgeon even coined a phrase -"there is certain music you simply can't play loud enough"

Enter The Who - you couldn't turn the volume  DOWN enough

It is a biological miracle that the curmudgeon can still hear anything
