Then there is the upkeep.
You never want to hear your highly paid pool guy go "uh oh"
A certain valve, rather important to pool operation, had failed. Just replace the valve. "Well, it hasn't been made for the last 20 years" (the year after we had the pool installed).
I suspect you can imagine my response to this. It was Seinfeldian - it's pipes, they go here, they go there, just give me a new valve.
Hah. We need to replace the entire filter system - no sweat, just $1250.
This is how eyes bleed.
