My little house has had water in the basement issues since day 1. Zillion dollar relandscaping pretty much eliminated them.
Gutter downspout clogging is an entirely different story. In a recent very heavy thunderstorm, the water was pouring into the basement so fast the perfboard holes over my bench were spouting water like small, evil faucets.
The immediate solution was to drag the ladder out, climb up and unclog the downspouts. I'm a tad over 60. Climbing ladders at all, let alone in the middle of a heavy downpour is not my game any more.
Hell, climbing stairs is getting really tired.
