Perhaps you've heard of "Outward Bound." It is a program to build confidence in kids by making them participate in real-world outdoor experiences. We curmudgeons admire such backbone-building adventures.
You, and a small coed band hop on to a 24-foot open sailboat and set off for adventure. Of course, the first "adventure" is figuring out how to respond to nature's calls on an open boat with no bathroom.
And it gets tougher. Encountering "weather" in an open boat off the coast of Maine is more "adventure" than any human needs.
Then there's the big test: being dropped off on a deserted island to forage for yourself for 24 hours. With a knife, some matches, and your wits.
Kinda glad they invented "Outward Bound" WAY after my time.
