Reprobate?

A dear friend once called me an old reprobate.  I followed the old part, as you can't escape it, but what kind of insult (or compliment) was this reprobate bit?

Once again, I did my homework.  Merriam obliged by saying some very, very ugly things.  But, as with all dictionaries, if you paw down enough, you can hopefully unearth something that won't make you want to kill someone.

So here we go: depraved, degenerate, knave, debaushed, fiend.

I took the next flight to the west coast, but I suspect he knew I was coming for him. 

The gun got tossed into the Pacific.
